Keyboard Building Club

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We are pleased to inform you that the Computing Department will be running a Keyboard Building Club
every Wednesday lunchtime throughout the Spring Term, starting on 14 January 2026.

The club will give pupils a hands-on opportunity to design and build their own mechanical keyboard. Pupils
will be able to choose from a range of different switches and keycaps to customise the look and feel of their
keyboard. As the term progresses, the club will be extended to include an exploration of how keyboard
switches work internally, as well as learning how to apply lubrication to switches to improve typing sound
and feel.

Each keyboard unit will cost £75, which covers the keyboard base, switches, and keycaps. These
components have been sourced as the most affordable options currently available online. Alternatively,
parents may prefer to purchase these components independently; in this case, students are welcome to
bring their own parts to the club.

By the end of the Spring Term, pupils will be able to take their completed keyboard home for personal use
and continue customising it independently if they wish. We believe this club will be an engaging and
educational experience, encouraging creativity, problem-solving, and an interest in computer hardware.
Please note that there are a maximum of 24 spaces available, which will be allocated on a first come, first
served basis. To secure a place please sign up, consent and make payment through WisePay (Clubs and
Activities) by Monday 12 January.
