Reading Programme - Community Fundraising Appeal
King Arthur's School is currently working to expand our library and classroom book collections to provide our students with better access to engaging, age-appropriate reading materials. Reading is the foundation of learning, and having a wide variety of books available is essential to fostering literacy, curiosity, and a lifelong love of learning. According to the National Literacy Trust in 2024, only 34.6% of children and young people enjoy reading in their free time, a figure that is an all-time national low.

However, those children who do frequently read for pleasure not only go on to achieve a stronger set of qualifications (in all subjects, not just English), they also report feeling more relaxed and happy when they read.

At King Arthur's School, we are ambitious and passionate about reversing this trend through a new tutor time reading programme where students will help to re-discover their love of literature. Unfortunately, national budget cuts in education are making this increasingly difficult. We are therefore seeking donations to help us purchase new books for our students and are reaching out to King Arthur's families to ask you to sponsor one book for this project.

If each family could provide a small, one-off donation towards this cause, we would be able to purchase over 400 new books that would support our students in reaching their academic potential, as well as further promoting mental health and well being initiatives.
