A Guide to Portraiture
Tutor: Sam Gimson (The Life Drawing Tutor)
Dates and times: 4.15pm to 5.30pm on Monday 23 June, 30 June, 7 July, 14 July
Venue: College in room 312

This class takes a broad look at portraiture, helping students to draw the head and facial features. There will be a new model each week with poses of varying lengths. The first two classes will focus on drawing the head from various angles. In the second two classes we will be using acrylic paint and the model will hold a single pose for the duration (1 hour 15 minutes). These paintings can then be finished off from photographs at home.

Sam will offer technical guidance, helping students to understand the formal and graphic elements involved in drawing faces. With reference to art history, we will discuss the basics of getting a likeness, and of making expressive and psychologically compelling portraits. All materials will be provided, but students are welcome to bring their own equipment and are encouraged to experiment.

You will be paying for the following sessions:

Monday 23 June,
Monday 30 June,
Monday 7 July,
Monday 14 July.

We look forward to seeing you.
