We are very excited to announce the launch of our second international visit to Iceland, which will take place in February 2026. This trip will be open to KS4 students of Geography (current Year 10 Geography students and Year 9 students intending to study GCSE Geography). During the trip, we will stay at the Hellisholar Cottages and Guesthouse in Southern Iceland, which is two hours travel from Reykjavik.
Students will visit many of southern Iceland's dynamic landscapes, including: Thingvellir National Park where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates meet, Gullfoss waterfall, the DyrhÃÆ'Æ'Æ'ÃÆ'‚³laey coast, SÃÆ'Æ'Æ'ÃÆ'‚³lheimajÃÆ'Æ'Æ'ÃÆ'‚¶kull Glacier, geothermal geysers, lava tubes and the Secret Lagoon thermal pool as well as having free time to explore the capital city of Reykjavik. Students will take a virtual flight over Iceland, participate in a hike across a glacier, visit the Lava Centre and have the opportunity to explore lava tube tunnels (Something we did not have the opportunity to do on our previous trip!).
The dates of the trip remain provisional until flights have been booked, but the trip is currently set to go ahead from Thursday 12th February ' Monday 16th February 2026. This will likely be the start of the half term to minimise any impact on students' learning.
The cost of the trip will be £1400 per student and covers all activities, transport and accommodation, travel insurance and meals on a full-board basis (breakfasts, packed lunch and evening meals). This can be paid in four instalments: a non-refundable £200 deposit due by 21st October 2024, £400 by 4th April 2025, £400 by 18th July 2025, and the remaining £400 prior to October half term 2025.
