Sponsored Walk
On Friday 13th October 2023, the school will be holding a 13km sponsored walk. It promises to be a challenging,
yet enjoyable activity in which all students can participate. It is expected that everyone joins in this whole-school
event; the sense of achievement at the end is considerable and it is good to be part of the community spirit
engendered by the walk.
Most of the school's fundraising during the year is for charities. However, the Sponsored Walk is the one occasion
when funds raised are used to purchase items for the benefit of students at the school. Previous sponsored walks
have funded the purchase of a new school minibus and completely refurbish one of our computer suites to provide
our students with an up to date and improved environment for learning.
This year we hope to raise funds for a number of projects that improve the school environment for all
students. This would include the changing facilities at the school and some of the outdoor spaces used at break
and lunch time. We would also like to continue to develop the Science classrooms and PE resources.
If everyone raises £15, we will exceed our target figure. We did not have a sponsored walk last year, so I hope all
students will make a particular effort this year to collect sponsors. We will require students to pay their sponsor
money the first week after October half term. Prizes will be given to the tutor groups and individuals who raise the
most in sponsorship. Please note, that whilst students are encouraged to collect sponsorship from relatives and
other people known to them or their parents (e.g. through work), we do not want students to 'cold call” as this
potentially puts them at risk and can be frightening for elderly residents.
Sponsored Swim
As an alternative event, a small number of students have been selected to complete a sponsored swim, they will
do this in teams with the same objective of 13Km. Students selected to participate in the swim will be contacted
separately.
