DEAN CLOSE PERFORMING ARTS SUMMER SCHOOL 2020

Dean Close School is delighted to announce its Summer School in August 2020 which will take place in the
Centenary Hall and Drama Suite at Dean Close Preparatory School.

Monday 24th August - Saturday 29th August 2020

Director of Drama, Lynne Lawrence, and DCPS Singing Teacher and Cheltenham Youth Choir Director, Rachel
Bowen, will head this new venture, along with a dedicated team of Drama, Dance and Music specialist
teachers, and technical support from the Bacon Theatre.

The week will conclude with a production of the musical 'Beauty and the Beast'.

All children, irrespective of ability and experience, are welcome on the course. The focus will be on having
fun while developing acting, singing and dancing skills.

Further details:
- The DC Performing Arts Summer School will take place in the Centenary Hall and the adjoining Drama
Suite at Dean Close Preparatory School, Lansdown Road, Cheltenham GL51 6QS.

- The course will take place on Monday 24th August - Saturday 29th August 2020.

- The cost of a place is £200.00 per child, £180 for a sibling.

- The age range is 6 - 17 years. School Years 2 - 11 inclusive.

- The working day will be 10am - 5pm, and pupils should arrive between 9.30 - 9.45am. Each pupil should
register on arrival, and children under 12 years of age must be booked in by a parent or authorised adult.

- Your child is invited to attend an informal audition at Dean Close Preparatory School on Sunday 28th June
at 10am in the Drama Suite to determine some of the parts in the production. This is not compulsory and if
not convenient, please be assured your child will be fully included in the production.

- The dress code should be comfortable and loose clothing: leggings and track suits are ideal. Jazz shoes,
ballet shoes, pumps and trainers are suitable footwear.

- Refreshments will be provided mid-morning, but each pupil should bring their own water bottle and a
packed
lunch (there are no refrigeration facilities), although these will be stored in a cool place. Please note that
the school is a nut-free site.

- The day concludes at 5pm. All pupils must sign out with reception before leaving. Pupils under 12 years of
age must be signed out and collected by a parent or authorised adult.

- All teachers are experienced, qualified and DBS checked.

- The closing date for booking a place on the course is Monday 3rd August 2020.

The Performance:
Throughout the week, pupils will prepare for a performance of the musical 'Beauty and the Beast'.
This will be performed at 6pm on Saturday 29th August and you and your families / friends are warmly
invited to join us. On this date, pupils should bring a packed tea as well as lunch, and the day will conclude
after the performance at approximately 7.30pm. Post-show, it is important that pupils under twelve are
handed over directly to parents or an authorised adult as usual.
Performance scripts and scores will be sent to you prior to the course, and pupils should learn these in
advance.
